We celebrated Cinco de Mayo! Angel and Omar donated decorations and a Mexican flag for our door.

Dear Families,

             Herrera Elementary will be hosting a Mother’s Day Tea in the school’s multipurpose room on May 8, 2008 from 12:30-2:00. Some of the students in our class created a video podcast that will be shown during this special event!        

             We are learning about landforms and will begin work on an exciting geography project next week. We need materials—please help by donating sturdy pieces of cardboard, approximately 10” by 14” in size.             

             We have started to work on 2-digit subtraction (with regrouping). We will practice this until the end of May and review all of the first grade math skills that were taught this year. I will give a comprehensive math test on Friday, May 16.             

             We will have a social studies test this Friday. Topics include U.S. symbols, community helpers/jobs, and comparing the past with the present. We have covered these topics extensively throughout the year.        

             Scholastic book orders are due Friday. This is our last book order of the year! Please consider purchasing books for your child’s summer reading.
